Our next stop in this “summer’s trip” is at Emergn office and we will talk about “AI as a pair”.
From time to time, we hear people talking about “how AI will replace everything and humans will either live happily, lazy life or will extinct because of lack of work.” This time we will focus on tools based on AI that could be as a pair in the software development process.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 is spreading therefore we ask you – friends, please, be nice and responsible and if you have any Covid-19 symptoms or symptoms of any other contagious illness, please be cautious and take all needed safety measures and instead of attending the event, please, watch this time recording of the event published afterward.

Muntis Rudzītis from Emergn will give a talk “Pair programming with AI tools like GitHub Copilot, GPT3 and others”.
GitHub Copilot is the first AI-based automatic code generator, that was recently publicly launched and become available to millions of users worldwide. The goal of the talk is to showcase the Copilot’s capabilities and kickstart the discussion of its perspective in the future in delivery teams.

Developers often faces design challanges and feels unconfortable solving them and/or are unsatisfied with the results. Whether it’s some internal admin panel for your system, implementing design from template page or creating your own project, sometimes you are left with design decisions whithout a designer around and you want to make best out of it. Gundars will go through most common design mistakes and how to fix them. He will show examples how small details can make a big difference and what to pay attention to for better overall design perception, improved UI development and collaboration with designers.

In this talk, we would like to take a closer look on key EDD concepts and benefits, as well as possible pitfalls.

However, it is possible to refactor it in a safe way using Event-Driven approaches and get profit at a very early stage. It is almost a tradition to have Start-up focused DevClub.lv at the turn of the year. This time we intended to make an event to help us to consider that we live in a common IT ecosystem where we all have opportunities and potential.

In addition, we are looking for new ways how in this online period of our lives to provide more opportunities for event attendees to participate in it. A Startup journey is a risky business with a big upside. One of the challenges is how to finance this journey. What are the options? What you should know at different stages?
Raising outside capital is not only about the money but also about people who are becoming part of your business. There are three parts that have to be understood if one wants to raise outside capital – How VC’s work and what does it mean to raise outside capital? What is the process? In particular, we will discuss how to train a classifier model using Google AutoML Tables for tabular data effectively and with minimal effort.

Pēteris Pakalns from LMT will give a talk “Development of an unmanned aerial vehicle computer vision solution for parabolic antenna inspection”.
This talk will discuss the inner workings of a solution that can recognize parabolic antennas. The processed information is used to navigate the drone in front of the antenna to execute further measurements. The presenter will focus on the solution idea and applied computer vision and machine learning algorithms. He will also look into the used software and typical problems while developing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) solutions.

Viesturs is a Senior Wireless testing engineer at MikroTik in Latvia with 7 years of experience in wireless technologies.

Rūdolfs Kreicbergs from LMT will give a talk “How quantum technologies affect network security today“.
This talk will discuss some of the ways quantum technologies are already impacting network security standards and requirements. To understand the impact, we need to start with the basics (ciphers and other cryptograhic functions, protocols, standards, etc) and their usage in various solutions (KPI-based handshakes, streamed data integrity validation, secure static content delivery, etc.). Quantum computers have been known for a while as a security threat – but it’s not so straight forward, nor is the industry unprepared for this. Will discuss how post-quantum cryptography addresses the risks and how quantum technologies such as quantum key distribution (QKD) can improve the security of future systems. Lastly, will brief on a collaboration project with LU MII to use quantum key distribution (QKD) over LMT optical cables for encrypting real-life data.
This talk does not require prior cryptography knowledge, but understanding the basics may help.

You’ve been to a restaurant before, right? Have you noticed how everything is structured? Everyone has a job and there is a chain of command. You can’t just walk into the kitchen and tell the cook how you want your steak done. Kubernetes is actually very similar to this. You will deploy some pods that do specific things and set the rules of communications that dictate how they all talk to each other. By expanding on the idea of a restaurant, the speaker will slowly introduce some of the basic concepts behind modern devops in a fun and easy to understand way. The attendees will come out of this talk with a whole new perspective on what Kubernetes does and how to apply this in their software development practices.
