As you most probably already know, next week will be DevOps Unicorns 2019 conference and we are lucky to get few of its speakers to DevClub. Actually several of them will be at DevClub just as visitors, but following will give talks. You are welcome to DevOps Unicorns Warmup meet-up on October 1 at 18:30, Zaļā iela 1, 4th floor (Microsoft Latvia office).
Agenda for DevOps Unicorns Warmup 79th DevClub.lv:
- Viktor Farcic from CloudBees will give a talk “Choosing The Right Deployment Strategy”.
Deployment strategies affect everyone, no matter whether we are focused only on a single aspect of the application lifecycle or we are in full control. The way we deploy affects the architecture, testing, monitoring, and many other aspects. And not only that, but we can say that architecture, testing, and monitoring affect the way we deploy. All those things are closely related and affect each other. We’ll discuss different deployment strategies and answer a couple of questions. Is your application stateful or stateless? Does its architecture permit scaling? How do you roll back? How do you scale up and down? Do you need your application to run always? Should you use Kubernetes Deployments instead of, let’s say, StatefulSets? Answers to those questions will not serve much unless we are familiar with some of the most commonly used deployment strategies. Not only that knowledge will help us choose which one to pick, but they might even influence the architecture of our applications.
Viktor will also have workshop “Cloud-Native Kubernetes-First Serverless Continuous Delivery With Jenkins X, Kubernetes, And Friends” at DevOps Unicorns.

- Peter Jausovec from Oracle will give a talk “Traffic Routing with Istio”.
Peter’s talk will focus on the traffic routing part of the Istio service mesh. He will go through the most common patterns that are critical to getting your services to production and keep them healthy and running at all times. As part of this session, you will learn the basics of the service mesh and common routing patterns that you can apply to your microservices.

Peter is a software engineer at Oracle working on cloud-native solutions. He has 10+ years of experience in the field of software development and tech, in various roles such as QA (test), software engineering and leading tech teams. He’s been working in the cloud-native space for the past could of years, and delivering talks and workshops around the world. During his career, he authored a couple of books, most recent two are Learn Istio Service Mesh and Cloud-Native: Using Containers, Functions, and Data to Build Next-Generation Applications.
- Aleksandr Tavgen from Playtech will give a talk “How to Painlessly Unite Art with Java, JavaScript, and Graphs or The Story Behind Creating an Interactive Theatre Production for the Estonia 100 Celebrations”.
This story is about creating unique interactive theatre performance with an interactive plotline and challenges that were met. Technical solution and problems on that side. And this story about art and beauty as well.
