We believe that there would be hard to find somebody for whom September is not associating with learning. DevClub.lv always has been about learning, especially learning from experience of others. This time we thought that it would be good to focus the event on “how to become an IT professional (programmer, tester, DevOps, whatever)” and found people who can share how to teach programming to kids, how to re-qualify from nonIT to IT professional and how to help people with some knowledge in IT to become a real IT professionals.
This event could be especially useful for those who are just starting to find their way into the IT world. If you know someone who fits this description please share about this event to him.

• Ilya Karpovs from Lokalise will give a talk “Edutainment and programming”.
  Some time ago, it was hard to find programming courses or good enough materials, so kids could learn on their own. But times have changed and now there are plenty of interactive media – tools, games, and educational videos. There is no need anymore to wait for the first courses of the university to learn programming basics. The talk will share experience about teaching kids programming on-site and remotely.

  The talk is about flaky, or unstable tests – why it’s the biggest trouble in test automation and how to overcome it. I will show my collection of real examples of flaky tests from my experience. These are really tricky investigations that lasted many days, weeks and even years!

  This talk is a quick journey into the reasoning and beauty of serverless approach to architecture. Let’s go through the platform (vendor-based, container-based, function vs service vs job) and function (functionlith/lambdalith, fat function, single purpose function, step function, routing function, circuit breaker function etc.) patterns that serverless community has come up so far with and some more. It’s going to be fun!

• Joel Lord from Red Hat will give a talk Kube Restaurant.
  You’ve been to a restaurant before, right? Have you noticed how everything is structured? Everyone has a job and there is a chain of command. You can’t just walk into the kitchen and tell the cook how you want your steak done.  Kubernetes is actually very similar to this. You will deploy some pods that do specific things and set the rules of communications that dictate how they all talk to each other. By expanding on the idea of a restaurant, the speaker will slowly introduce some of the basic concepts behind modern devops in a fun and easy to understand way. The attendees will come out of this talk with a whole new perspective on what Kubernetes does and how to apply this in their software development practices.
