Happy New Year! Let’s talk this time about FrontEnd/Design.
You are welcome to FrontEnd focused DevClub.lv on January 29 at 18:30, Tet birojā, Dzirnavu ielā 105, Rīga.
Huge thanks to Tet for their hospitality! They will be providing us with beer and snacks.
Agenda for FrontEnd/Design focused 82nd Devclub.lv
- Mārtiņš Barkovs from Tet will give a talk “Design System: Multi-departmental company under a unified umbrella”.
How creating a design system completely from scratch for an enterprise scale company can save you both money, time and unnecessary headaches. I will give you an insight, from both the coding and business perspective, about how such a system came to be and what are the day to day benefits of such a platform.

Mārtiņš is a Frontend Developer working at Tet for close to three years now. He’s worked on several projects there ranging from IoT solutions to a component-based design system. Smiling, running, coding and enjoying the details of the nitty-gritty things in life.
- DYNATECH DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGE #2.
From the 12th of December till the 12th of January, the second DYNATECH Development Challenge—Fintech Data Science took place. Everyone with a passion for coding was welcome to participate and apply their Data Science, Machine Learning and FinTech expertise to decide whether to lend a loan to a particular client or not. The winners will be awarded during FrontEnd focused 82nd DevClub.lv
A brief recap of the first DYNATECH challenge awards at our office (during DevClub.lv 81st meetup) can be seen here.
- Krišjānis Mežulis from Mapon will give a talk “The process of sustainable design”.
Product design has come a long way, and it’s currently being challenged to see whether it’s possible to use it to maximise the positive impact on a userbase. What makes a product sustainable? What determines a successful product design and how it’s perceived the user? What to look for when implementing digital solutions? Krišjānis will share real-life examples on how Mapon gathers, understands and uses valuable user experience data to make its products more easy-to-use. He’ll also share the importance of seeing the positive impact of user analysis on the design process and evaluating results.

Krišjānis holds the position of the Lead Product Designer at Mapon and is working on designing fleet management solutions and other core product design made by Mapon. He began his path as an Art Director in multiple agencies and slowly moved to a more product-focused approach to design. Krišjānis joined Draugiem Group 6 years ago and worked on multiple projects that were only at the early stage of development at that time. Then, after 3 years, he became a part of the rapidly-growing Mapon team and worked on reforming the entire product design approach. In his free time, Krišjānis enjoys pushing his limits in orienteering and organizing rogaining races.
- Mykhailo Lonin and Janis Knets from Accenture will give a talk “React Hooks”.
1. What are React Hooks?
React Hooks are functions that let us hook into the React state and lifecycle features from function components. By this, we mean that hooks allow us to easily manipulate the state of our functional component without needing to convert them into class components.
2. Why React Hooks?
Hooks let you always use functions instead of having to constantly switch between functions, classes, higher-order components, and render props.
3. Built In React Hooks
Overview How to use and be effective with the major hooks (useState, useCallback, useMemo, useEffect, useReducer, useContext, useRef). Understand how each of these hooks work and what they replace (according to our class components)
4. Building Your Own Hooks
Building your own Hooks lets you extract component logic into reusable functions.
