How creating a design system completely from scratch for an enterprise scale company can save you both money, time and unnecessary headaches. I will give you an insight, from both the coding and business perspective, about how such a system came to be and what are the day to day benefits of such a platform.
(Language – Latvian)

- Krišjānis Mežulis from Mapon will give a talk “The process of sustainable design”.
Product design has come a long way, and it’s currently being challenged to see whether it’s possible to use it to maximise the positive impact on a userbase. What makes a product sustainable? What determines a successful product design and how it’s perceived the user? What to look for when implementing digital solutions? Krišjānis will share real-life examples on how Mapon gathers, understands and uses valuable user experience data to make its products more easy-to-use. He’ll also share the importance of seeing the positive impact of user analysis on the design process and evaluating results.
(Language – Latvian)
Tags: product design, user experience, design
Krišjānis holds the position of the Lead Product Designer at Mapon and is working on designing fleet management solutions and other core product design made by Mapon. He began his path as an Art Director in multiple agencies and slowly moved to a more product-focused approach to design. Krišjānis joined Draugiem Group 6 years ago and worked on multiple projects that were only at the early stage of development at that time. Then, after 3 years, he became a part of the rapidly-growing Mapon team and worked on reforming the entire product design approach. In his free time, Krišjānis enjoys pushing his limits in orienteering and organizing rogaining races.
- Mykhailo Lonin and Janis Knets from Accenture will give a talk “React Hooks”.
1. What are React Hooks?
React Hooks are functions that let us hook into the React state and lifecycle features from function components. By this, we mean that hooks allow us to easily manipulate the state of our functional component without needing to convert them into class components.
2. Why React Hooks?
Hooks let you always use functions instead of having to constantly switch between functions, classes, higher-order components, and render props.
3. Built In React Hooks
Overview How to use and be effective with the major hooks (useState, useCallback, useMemo, useEffect, useReducer, useContext, useRef). Understand how each of these hooks work and what they replace (according to our class components)
4. Building Your Own Hooks
Building your own Hooks lets you extract component logic into reusable functions.

Announcement of DevOps Unicorns Warmup 79th DevClub.lv
Hi!
As you most probably already know, next week will be DevOps Unicorns 2019 conference and we are lucky to get few of its speakers to DevClub. Actually several of them will be at DevClub just as visitors, but following will give talks. You are welcome to DevOps Unicorns Warmup meet-up on October 1 at 18:30, Zaļā iela 1, 4th floor (Microsoft Latvia office).
Agenda for DevOps Unicorns Warmup 79th DevClub.lv:
- Viktor Farcic from CloudBees will give a talk “Choosing The Right Deployment Strategy”.
Deployment strategies affect everyone, no matter whether we are focused only on a single aspect of the application lifecycle or we are in full control. The way we deploy affects the architecture, testing, monitoring, and many other aspects. And not only that, but we can say that architecture, testing, and monitoring affect the way we deploy. All those things are closely related and affect each other. We’ll discuss different deployment strategies and answer a couple of questions. Is your application stateful or stateless? Does its architecture permit scaling? How do you roll back? How do you scale up and down? Do you need your application to run always? Should you use Kubernetes Deployments instead of, let’s say, StatefulSets? Answers to those questions will not serve much unless we are familiar with some of the most commonly used deployment strategies. Not only that knowledge will help us choose which one to pick, but they might even influence the architecture of our applications.
Viktor will also have workshop “Cloud-Native Kubernetes-First Serverless Continuous Delivery With Jenkins X, Kubernetes, And Friends” at DevOps Unicorns.
(Language – English)
